How I do more in less time.
a counter-intuitive and seemingly counter-productive hack
I used to put so much pressure on myself to do do do, go go go.
If I wasn’t doing something, I wasn’t being productive.
to me productivity = action action action.
but it wasn’t until I learned to slow down that suddenly new doors opened to me
new ways of seeing things, a fresh perspective
new ways of doing things
new ways of EXPERIENCING things.
Suddenly I was spewing a ton of outputs, both creative and innovative…
meditations
web apps
websites
marketing copy
social media posts
articles
all while juggling a full time job.
I got my work done, but in the hours where I was not working I was creatively outputing.
I was unstoppable!
I know this seems like a lot of action, but actually in the time I would have spent in my car commuting to work I was spending a lot of time in my backyard, soaking up the sun, looking up at the big blue sky,
admiring all that space outside
fascinated by the hummingbirds that visited
and the monarchs that zig zagged across the yard.
By slowing down and taking all this in,
I was able to find my natural rhythm — nature’s rhythm.
And align with flow — nature’s flow, universal flow.
Sound woo woo?
You gotta experience it to understand!
How do you experience it?
go out in nature
you only need 10 minutes at a time.
Don’t have 10? take 5!
Get LOST in it
— instead of getting lost in your head or lost in your thoughts.
Get lost in the beauty through all the external sensory inputs
i.e. go outside to go back inside — you, to understand who you are. Know thyself.
Go outside of yourself to find peace and then restore that peace inside.
Monkey see, monkey do.
When you look at something still, you can return to that space of stillness inside.
Get lost in that stillness.
And when you come back, you’re refreshed.
You’ve replenished your energy store.
Another way to replenish energy? Do something you enjoy and love. Interleave that with work.
It could just be lunch with a friend or colleague — but DON’T talk about work the whole time.
It is called a lunch BREAK after all. ;)
If you can work hard, you can play hard.
Don’t forget the PLAY part during they day and during the week.
It’s when we save all the play for the weekend that we feel drained. ❤
