Is the Fun in Knowing or NOT Knowing?

fear of the unknown can keep us from experiencing life fully

Do you like clichés?

How about this classic one:

It’s about the journey, not the destination.

When we say journey though, what we really mean is adventure.

It’s about the adventure.

The Puzzle

a daunting puzzle to solve
the beginning: a puzzle

Let’s take for example puzzles as a fun relatable metaphor…

When I begin a new puzzle it’s a bit daunting, so many pieces to put together, many look similar in color, shape, size.

I know what the finished product is supposed to look like, similar to how we know what our vision or goal in life looks like.

But the challenge lies in having to work backwards and putting the pieces together to get to that finished product or destination.

And so I admit right off the bat it will take many tries to find the piece that fits in the right place.

Then I commit to a strategy.

I start with one corner, and the outside boundaries first to frame the puzzle, then work my way to the other parts that look like low hanging fruits.

In this same way I build my business, from the ground up, like from the outline and the base layers of a new puzzle or art piece.

You see starting a business is just like starting anything that’s new to us

like…

Solving a new puzzle,

Creating a new piece of art.

The beginning may be slow and progress may be small,

You might have to erase and try again,

You may have to try connecting difference pieces of the puzzle that you ultimately find out don’t fit — at which point you try again.

But you don’t give up on that puzzle or piece of art.

You had a vision going in to it and you intend to commit to solving it, completing it, mastering it.

For what? For the experience, for the learning, the growth and transformation along the way.

The End is Sweet, but the Ride is Fun.

And once you’ve arrived and you’re done with that mission and adventure,

You go on to the next quest.

You see, life is a never ending adventure,

A quest we’re on to grow and evolve and expand.

The only thing that keeps us from doing so is fear,

And addiction to comfort,

An affinity toward constant stability. Instability is what pushes our boundaries.

There is no balancing without imbalance to make it a balancing act.

Without imbalance there is nothing to balance.

The final process comes together faster at the end when the vision of that thing you are building or creating becomes more clear and you have a better understanding of what it is you are doing, i.e. when more pieces of the puzzle are laid out.

We’re always rushing to the finish line,

to say that we made it we did it.

But it’s not about making it or finishing,

It’s about who we become over the course of the journey and at the end of it all

— the stronger, more resilient, wiser us.

And that truly is a cause for celebration.

And then we get to take that wiser person with us on the next quest, the next adventure.

A Common Struggle

We carry doubts and fears in our mind but it weighs on us as if they’re real.

Yet we often stop halfway, or even at the beginning,

when there are so many pieces of the puzzles to solve, so many pieces missing.

Or when we have a blank canvas,

Or when there is so much to learn without a map or a system or a compass.

We feel overwhelmed,

and we quit.

We abandon the puzzle,

We abandon the art,

We abandon ship,

and we abandon the future and what could be.

Or we quit because we find unfamiliar territory,

a point of discomfort,

a struggle with not knowing,

and a pressure to know.

We then get frustrated over how long it’s taking,

or a fear of getting it wrong.

A fear of someone passing judgment on our art,

questioning our talents and our worth.

At the end of the day everything we build and create is art,

whether tangible or not,

Concrete or not,

It is still art.

Bye-bye Fear. Hello Bright Future.

I’ve had to work through fear a bit myself, especially int he past few years.

Fears I didn’t even know I had or ever admitted to.

Fear of failure,

Of mistakes,

Of judgement.

In fact, I used to think I didn’t care what people think.

And truth is I often did go my own way and do my own thing.

But there were things I didn’t do and now I know why I didn’t do them.

Fear.

— a simple 4-letter word that paralyzes, debilitates, and kills dreams.

It was only last year that I finally uncovered these underlying fears,

connected to their meaning and their wisdom,

and finally release them.

What I know is this… at the end of the day, we ourselves are an ever-evolving never-ending masterpiece in progress,

Each of us is a walking piece of art.

Each of us is a puzzle, solving other puzzles and problems and in the process we too get solved.

Each of us is an essential piece of the grand puzzle of life and of all that exists.

Knowing that each of us has unique value, what is there then to fear?

We are perfect as we are, and the sooner we realize that the better off everyone will be.

Because then we can go out there…

Live more life,

Have more fun,

Go on more quests,

Solve more puzzles,

Start more adventures,

and finish what we start.

We can maximize our potential,

see what each of us is truly made of

— and ultimately see what we as a collective are truly capable of.

Namaste ❤
